We’re looking for a search engine marketer to play a vital role in the expansion and growth of our Search Engine Marketing team at ExtraMile Communications. The role will mostly consist of planning and carrying out SEM activity for clients, but will also include duties surrounding ExtraMile’s own digital marketing activity.

Key responsibilities of the position

SEM client responsibilities: 

  • Regularly audit websites to provide technical SEO recommendations
  • Carry out technical SEO recommendations
  • Create and carry out SEO project plans in line with client objectives
  • Attend regular client and design meetings to advise on SEO best practice
  • Use a range of software (such as Screaming Frog, Raven Tools, Moz, and Google Analytics) to generate insight and diagnose problems
  • To work on improving site speed across projects
  • Present and execute strategies designed to increase visibility on Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) involving content marketing, link building, and more
  • Regularly write content – such as blogs, content marketing pieces, and resources
  • Keep up to date with the most recent developments in Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and share knowledge with wider team
  • Carry out and report on PPC activity
  • Work closely with the SEM Manager to develop ExtraMile’s SEM offering and take it to the next level

ExtraMile’s digital marketing responsibilities:

  • Write content in line with an approved content schedule and add to the EMC website
  • Carry out SEM activity for the EMC site in line with the project plan
  • Build the EMC newsletter using the approved design and email marketing software
  • Send the EMC newsletter
  • Report on the effectiveness of our digital marketing in line with approved KPIs using the reporting template
  • Provide Design with copy for print materials for exhibitions and events
  • Write and schedule content for Facebook and Twitter (working closely with PR)
  • Work with PR to seek link building opportunities and build our online visibility
  • Research the SEM market and trends – adapt the EMC SEM strategy accordingly and use insight to work with the SEM Manager to adapt the SEM service as appropriate 

Person specification



  • 1+ years experience in a SEM related role


  • Any digital marketing related training



  • Experience using Content Management Systems (CMSs) such as WordPress, Joomla!, and Magento
  • Experience using Google Analytics to draw insight


  • Experience auditing websites, presenting findings, and actioning recommendations to lead to SEO benefits
  • Agency experience
  • Experience using a range of SEO software such as Screaming Frog and Moz
