ExtraMile Communications is a digital marketing agency based in Stone, Staffordshire, that provides three specific services: Website Design and Development, Search Engine Marketing and Global Marketing Services.

ExtraMile Communications is seeking a commercially-minded, data-driven, creative SEM strategist who is a skilled talent-developer with high level strategic capability, to drive growth of revenue, expansion and development of products and services. The ideal candidate will have a minimum 5 years’ SEM experience, will have been a Senior Manager for a number of years and is now looking to impart their knowledge to further develop ExtraMile’s SEM team, while constantly improving their own knowledge and skills.

In the dynamic and fast-paced world of SEM, this role requires someone with matching attributes to drive business forward in this rapidly-growing business segment. They will be able to demonstrate that they understand the market and have strategic capability of having grown teams, departments and accounts before.
The Head of SEM will be responsible for advising on the development of our website and those of our clients. They will have sole responsibility for the initiation, launch and success of ExtraMile’s white label SEO service and will deliver on growth targets. Their overall objectives are to increase organic traffic and ultimately provide conversion rates for ExtraMile and its clients.

The candidate will have experience of managing high-value accounts, operating at board level within client companies, liaising in-house at directorial level and will have team-mentoring experience along with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results. They will be someone who can quickly understand a business’s vision and goals and develop a campaign that will deliver its targets. They will have demonstrable skill in delivering ROI and be able to report through Board level presentations, operating at strategic level.

The Head of SEM will have three main key objectives:

  1. Initiate, launch and nurture the ExtraMile white label SEO service
  2. Coach / mentor ExtraMile’s SEM Manager to provide them with the opportunity for growth and devise a structured development plan
  3. Grow consultancy revenue and deliver higher-value audits for large clients with strategic recommendations

Role & Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the SEM Manager, develop the strategy for SEM, delivering growth year on year to agreed business targets. This is an opportunity for the Head of SEM to impart their experience on the SEM Manager in order to develop them for succession in the long term
  • Initiate, develop and launch ExtraMile’s new SEM white label service
  • Develop and implement effective Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategies for locally and globally recognised brands
  • Challenge the current services, innovating the company’s offer to clients, based on previous experience and success
  • Initiate, launch and nurture the ExtraMile white label SEO service
  • Lead extensive, multilingual SEO audits (including platform migrations)
  • Track, analyse and report on website analytics
  • Execute tests, collect and analyse data, identifying trends and insights in order to achieve maximum site engagement and high performing competitive keyword rankings
  • Instead of staying on top of current SEO and marketing trends, be the creator of SEO and marketing trends, where others follow
  • Promote ExtraMile as the expert in the SEM arena at nationwide seminars
  • Provide strategies that will increase organic and referral traffic volumes over ExtraMile’s and its clients’ sites with the overall goal of increasing conversions
  • Develop and implement SEO-relevant content strategies with keyword focus in-house and for the company’s clients
  • Provide extensive evidence in the form of case studies clearly showing ROI for ExtraMile and its clients
  • Supporting the SEM team with resource planning

Required Skills

  • Technical SEO knowledge
  • Excellent knowledge of HTML/CSS
  • 360 SEO client management experience
  • Knowledge of CRO and associated tools
  • Demonstrate proven UX and UI experience
  • Well-versed in performance marketing
  • A creative thinker who will generate innovative ideas in order to increase ExtraMile’s and its clients’ online visibility
  • A motivator and mentor to the SEM Manager, their deputy and their team of three
  • Familiarity with relevant tools (e.g. Screaming Frog, MOZ, SEMRush) and web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Google Search Console)
  • Confident communicating at Board level with global brands
  • Proven track record of improving significant ROI for clients
  • Experience with WordPress, Magento, Joomla! or similar CMSs
  • Experience in a senior SEM management role, preferably within an agency environment
  • Objectives and results driven with proven experience of delivering targets
  • Commercially astute
  • BSc degree in Marketing, Digital technologies, leadership level qualification or training level 7 or above
