ExtraMile’s Magical Moments

2017 is drawing to an end – and what a year it’s been for ExtraMile and staff! We’ve had so many high points, from awards and accreditations to huge personal celebrations and achievements, and it’s important to take a moment to appreciate all the wonderful times we’ve had as a team.

Moving on up
The start of the year came with two in-house promotions for Shannon and Jade, who became our Creative Manager and SEM Manager respectively. This coincided with the official formation of the Studio Management Team – and they’ve been unstoppable ever since!

Amelia joined us

The year also brought growth, with the addition of SEO & Copywriting Assistant, Amelia. It’s safe to say she’s brought lots of fun and enthusiasm with her – she’s passionate about good writing and keeping our clients happy!

Every little helps

We’re committed to constantly improving our processes to ensure the highest quality end result, and also improve and decrease our impact on the environment, so it makes sense that this month we passed our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 again.

Celebrate good times – come on!

We don’t always need a reason for a work social, but when two good reasons come together at once, it’d be rude not to party. In March, Web Designer, Jack, turned the grand old age of 21, and Project Coordinator Nicki returned from her South American sabbatical!

 brighton seo

The sun shone down on Jade and Amelia as they joined 3,500 SEO-ers to share knowledge and to take a dive into the latest digital trends. Ever since then, our clients have been benefitting from their ever-increasing knowledge in the Search Engine Marketing arena.

Laura joined the team!

In April, the SEM squad grew a little bigger and even smilier with SEO and PPC Assistant, Laura, joining the team, along with her analytical eye and optimistic attitude. Despite her ever-growing coffee round, SEM Manager Jade said “We’ve enjoyed learning lots of new things over the past 12 months and developing as a team - geeking out is what we do best.”

Learning at work

Learning at Work Week

We love sharing knowledge so we happily embraced Learning at Work Week with extra Internal Training sessions, including the foundations of good design and SEO friendly practices. It all added up to the ExtraMile team becoming more aware and knowledgeable in subjects other than just their own.

The ExtraMile design process was shaken up with the addition of Sketch. Shannon said “it’s helped to streamline our processes – bridging the gap between design and development, and integrates seamlessly with InVision (another favourite here) as well as being just generally drool-worthy software.” And yes, our clients are delighted with the results.

Philippa’s wedding!

Back in the height of summer we had the joyous celebration of Account Co-ordinator Philippa’s wedding to the lovely Chris. We enjoyed a pre-wedding work hen-do (where the guys came along too!) and had a fabulous time celebrating with them on their big day.

iron man

James is our Iron Man

Our Sales and Marketing Manager loves a challenge, and he threw himself into completing the Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire. “It was a great achievement that I worked so hard for – it took months of training” – and he’s even been heard saying he’ll do it again next year!

Here we grow again

In July, we welcomed two new additions to the ExtraMile family – Quality Assistant Nancy, and Ashleigh, our new Sales Prospector. They infused the whole team with renewed energy and focus, making really positive impacts on both of their departments.

Highly Commendable

After being shortlisted for the Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, we were thrilled to get Highly Commended in the Digital Award category. As you’d expect, we’re working extra hard now to prove we’ll be winners in this category next year.

Two of our very talented developers, Mark and Umar, attended the Joomla! workshop in London and passed the Administrator Exam with flying colours – becoming 2 of only 9 in the country with official Joomla! accreditation.

We got Gold!

In August, we were absolutely thrilled to be accredited as an Investors in People organisation at the prestigious Gold level (only three years after achieving the Standard level). All our hard work certainly paid off and we celebrated our socks off! We gave ourselves a day’s rest, now we’re working hard to attain the best accolade of all, Platinum.

Peter’s 10-year anniversary at ExtraMile

Account Manager, Peter, celebrated his 10-year workiversary – he’s seen so much change and growth within the business, packed in so much experience and picked up a few memories on the way!

Team building and biscuits

Our Annual Offsite meeting was another roaring success – packed full of insightful presentations and biscuit eating. We even smashed a record during a team-building exercise – that’s ExtraMile teamwork for you!

 bake off

Birthday bake off

September sees a rush of birthdays in the office – , Studio Manager Andy, and Business Coordinator, Katy – as well as Nicki and Andy’s work-anniversaries. In ExtraMile language that means cake, cake and more cake! Andy and Nicki even battled it out in a birthday bake off. Nicki was the triumphant winner!

 website live

The Donna Louise website launch

The Donna Louise is a charity close to our hearts, and we donated, created, built and launched their brand-new website in October. The stunning new platform reflects their widely-loved personality and newly updated identify.

machu picchu

Jade summits Machu Picchu

This month also saw Jade trekking through Peru, to emerge through the clouds at Machu Picchu, joining the ranks of ExtraMile hikers who have climbed there. Honestly, we should have a flag up there…

 great client results

Great client results

Over the last month one of our SEO clients, Alanto, enjoyed an increase in traffic as a result of their tailor-made campaign. They said “We are getting much more interest in the company generated by the site. Only last month we picked up 8 new accounts all generated by the website.”

Also, Gough Engineering saw steady growth in traffic to their site from search engines throughout the year (with more than a 50% increase in organic traffic when comparing YoY!), reaching all-time highs in November. Great work SEM team!

Onwards and upwards

December isn’t just bringing plenty of exciting deadlines and festive activities (hot chocolate bar anyone?) – it’s also bringing a buzz about the new year ahead. Representing the SEM department, Jade said “Here’s to another brilliant 12 months! In 2017, we’ve worked on 16 rolling SEO contracts and many more in-build, social media and content writing projects. With almost 30 SEM clients in total, the department is looking forward to continued growth throughout 2018 (after a nice rest over Christmas)!"
