Last month, the team ventured down to London for the hottest event in the marketing calendar – Marketing Week Live. So we thought we'd better bring you some of the marketing wisdom we came back with!

What is Marketing Week Live?

It's a marketing exhibition and conference held at the Olympia in London – bringing together marketing experts, technology solutions and anyone that is looking for inspiration and up to date knowledge.

What were the hot topics at Marketing Week Live 2016?

There were lots of relatively new marketing terms flying around that you need to know about in 2016.

Look alike modeling – It's all about finding potential customers who behave in the same way as your current customers do online. It could be the key to really successful online advertising!

Retargeting – You know when you've been browsing the internet for that new pair of shoes and then they start popping up as adverts on other sites and your social media? That's retargeting!

Programmatic advertising – Targeting specific audiences with advertising based on age, location, job title and more – most commonly used with Facebook advertising.

Sensory marketing – We all know virtual reality is starting to connecting physical and digital experiences and even adding taste and smell. Now neuro science is being applied to market research to improve engagement levels online.

Marketing automation – It's all about automating marketing activities using software. However, are automated systems leaving marketeers feeling out of control and distanced from their leads and customers?

Going global at #MWL16

We were showcasing our multilingual marketing abilities, - so international websites, emails and SEO were the topics making waves on our stand!

The key takeaway from our stand was that it's very easy to make mistakes when dealing in a language that's not your own. And Google Translate isn't always so reliable...So sometimes it's very wise to call upon the experts!

At ExtraMile we try to take an hour out each week to look around us at what others do and to gain inspiration and to admire people's creativity. Each post in this series is one staff member's take on the world of web, design and things online. We hope you enjoy it.
