Good morning.

Here’s a round up of the latest surrounding the ever growing world of mobile e-commerce.

Design Hour #2

05 June 2013

Hi everybody,

Here are my design findings this month:

In the world of web

We Are Royale. More of an advertising agency but there's a huge variety of styles going on. It's interesting scrolling through the images on the very first page as there is a lot of colour going on. I also like how the logo changes colour to adapt to the surroundings. I think they're missing a trick by not being a responsive site, as the Work page is beautifully laid out.

iconmonstr. For anyone looking for icons for one of our sites (I know I frequently do) I've stumbled upon an excellent website for them. The way it's laid out is super quirky and the functionality is great - you can download as high res as possible and then vectorise them from there.

Wearable tech and the future of web design

IDM

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last few months you should have heard about Google Glass the 'smartspecs' that give you a heads-up display of data, whether it's information that your train is running late or the latest football scores. Google believe this will change the way we interact with data and information in a huge way. We have seen a huge transformation with the way we interact with information in the past two decades with the internet, mobile phones, smartphones and more so it's easy to see why Google believe this to be a 'game-changer'.

Great questions to ask about your website's navigation

IDM

Getting people to the information they need in the shortest possible time is an exercise that combines psychology, user interface design and topology. Bad navigation hinders the user's ability to move smoothly from interest to enquiry to result: a flow that underpins our interactions with much of the web.

So where do we start in order to get to grips with site navigation?

10 years a Fellow of the IDM

Nick Evans here - Technical Director of ExtraMile. I've now been a Fellow of the IDM for 10 years - I can't believe how quickly it has flown by. I was a relatively early member too and in that period of time I have gone from working in a small local authority consortium publishing house, through marketing and selling software to being Head of Marketing for Apple's UK Education business. For the last 13 years I have been running, with my wife - Gabrielle Hadley - our digital marketing agency: ExtraMile Communications Ltd.

Design Hour #1

15 April 2013

Hello all,

Here's my first in the line of design hours.

In the world of web

Nudge. This site is unbelievably minimal, yet has such an impact. I think the photography is beautiful and I also think there's one particular style going through all the design - it makes me think it's a one-man show. They've created a whole new vintage.

Beatbox Academy. I like this site. I really like this site. I like anything you can play a drum kit on. From a design perspective - look at the concept. Speech bubbles, cymbals and drums. Again, quite minimalist - as you look through the pages you'll see it's all on one page.
PS. I'm taking a month off to go on a Beatboxing course :)
